GAO Finds Insufficient Coordination and Synergy Between Northern Command and the Civilian Agencies

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued a report requested by a bipartisan, bicameral group of legislators that raises concerns about fundamental operations at the U.S.
Northern Command (NORTHCOM), specifically its inconsistent coordination when
exercising in collaboration with the very State, local, and tribal governments
that the Command was created to support.

FLOODHUG ...

The FLOODHUG !

Thanks to the efforts of Ken Leep the CFM, ASFPM Chapter 5 Director and California Central Valley HAZUS User Group coordinator there was a virtual FLOODHUG meeting at the 2009 Floodplain Management Association Annual Conference in San Jose, CA on September 8th.

On September 9th there will be a panel discussion - Advances in Hazard Assessment and Emergency Management - that will focus of the application of HAZUS-MH.

Experiences from Past Disasters Offer Insights for Effective Collaboration after Catastrophic Events

The GAO recommended in a new report that the Secretary of Homeland Security direct the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to create a mechanism that’s focused on sharing information and lessons learned regarding disaster recovery, including good collaborative practices.
